This spreadsheet calculates the design maximum allowable traffic loading for a Cement Bound Materials (CBM) foundation using the UK DMRB standard. This can be used in conjunction with an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool to design a CBM layer which can be added into a full pavement design package such as the MEDG Asphalt Design Spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet uses three different methods to calculate the CBM layers maximum allowable traffic loading according to the UK DMRB standard. The first two methods take user input values for the CMB layer type according to the UK DMRB standard, and the stresses imposed on the layer under traffic loading. Then the spreadsheet calculates the maximum allowable traffic loading from either the flexural strength or the tensile strength of the standard CBM layer. This stress can be calculated using an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool. Then the spreadsheet calculates maximum allowable traffic loading for this CBM layer.
The third method allows the user to specify a non standard CBM type. Using inputs for the CBM layers static modulus and direct tensile strength, the spreadsheet then calculates the maximum allowable traffic loading for the layer.
These spreadsheets also include unique tools allowing the user to see the effects of different stresses without re-entering any of the input data. This makes it easy for the designer to quickly calculate the maximum stresses for a particular traffic loading.
