This spreadsheet calculates the surface temperatures and temperatures at different depths for asphalt pavements using common measurements. The results are useful for a number of asphalt design and analysis tools including the MEDG Asphalt Design Spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet includes 5 different methods of evaluating the asphalt temperatures, including surface temperatures, temperature changes at different depths through the asphalt layer, daily and 5 day average asphalt temperatures, changes in the asphalt temperature at different times of the day and estimated max temperatures at different lattitudes.
These values can be calculated from a number of different easily measured user inputs including asphalt surface temperatures, daily and 5 day average air temperatures and layer thicknesses. The user can also input different latitudes, times of the day and calculate the temperatures at different depths through the asphalt layer.
The spreadsheet also includes unique tools allowing the user to see the effects of different input values, such as different temperature inputs, different depths through the asphalt layer, different times of the day and different latitudes. The ability to see these results all in one graph without changing the inputs allows the user to save time, as they can evaluate the full range of inputs without manually changing them over and over.
