This spreadsheet calculates the traffic loading at which crushing failure of Cement Bound Materials (CBM) foundations begins, and also the traffic loading which would lead to a 10mm deformation of the layer due to crushing. This can be used in conjunction with an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool to design a CBM layer which can be added to a full pavement design package such as the MEDG Asphalt Design Spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet takes user input values for the strength of the CMB layer and the vertical stresses acting on the layer under traffic loading. This stress can be calculated using an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool. Then the spreadsheet calculates the point at which crushing failure of the CBM layer would begin, and then it calculates the point at which crushing failure would be responsible for a permanent deformation of 10mm at the top of the layer.
The spreadsheet also includes unique tools allowing the user to see the effects of different CBM strengths and different stresses, without re-entering any of the input data. This makes it easy for the designer to quickly calculate the required CBM strength or vertical stress for a particular traffic loading.
