This spreadsheets calculates the design maximum allowable traffic loading for a Cement Bound Materials (CBM) foundation layer. This can be used in conjunction with an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool to design a CBM layer which can be added into a full pavement design package such as the MEDG Asphalt Design Spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet uses two methods. The first method for standard life pavements takes user input values for CBM strength and tensile stress imposed on the CBM layer. It then calculates the maximum allowable traffic loading for the CBM layer and the asphalt cover thickness required.
The second method for perpetual pavements takes user input values for CBM type and strength. It then calculates the critical stress at the bottom of the CBM layer for a perpetual pavement.
The spreadsheets also includes unique tools allowing the user to see the effects of different stresses and CBM layer strengths without re-entering any of the input data. This makes it easy for the user to calculate the required CBM strength or the maximum tensile stress for a particular traffic loading.
