The spreadsheet takes user input values for the stresses and strains for the emulsion treated layer under load and the thickness of the layer. These values can be calculated using an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool. It then calculates the maximum allowable traffic loading which the layer can withstand before failure. Two modes of failure are analysed, vertical permanent deformation and fatigue cracking, and the lesser value is the layers maximum design allowable traffic loading.
The spreadsheet also includes a unique tool allowing the user to see the effects of different stresses and strains on the maximum allowable traffic loading, without re-entering any of the input data. Used alongside an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool, this can greatly speed up the design of a flexible road utilising an Emulsion treated base.
