Foamed Bituminous Stabilised Layer

This spreadsheet calculates the maximum allowable traffic loading on a foamed bitumen stabilised road foundation.  These results allow the user to design a foamed bitumen stabilised road base which can be added to a full pavement design package such as the MEDG Asphalt Design Spreadsheet and the UK Flexible Pavement Design Tool.

The spreadsheet takes user input values for the strain induced in a foamed bitumen stabilised layer under load and values for the design of the bitumen stabilised layer. The strain value can be calculated using an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool. The spreadsheet then calculates the maximum allowable number of repetitions which the layer can withstand before failure. This is effectively the design maximum allowable traffic loading for the bitumen stabilised layer.

The spreadsheet also includes a unique tool allowing the user to see the effects of different strains on the maximum allowable traffic loading, without re-entering any of the input data. Used alongside an elastic analysis program such as our Elastic Analysis Tool, this can greatly speed up the design of a flexible road utilising a foamed bitumen stabilised base.
