The anode density is required in order to calculate the mass of anodic material in the cathodic protection system. The CivilWeb Cathodic Protection Design Spreadsheet allows the designer to input any anode density. Commonly used density values are shown below.
The maintenance period calculations will return the amount of mass of anodic material which is required to protect the structure for the required design life of the cathodic protection system. The anode design must contain enough anodic material to ensure the anodes will remain in service for the duration of the design life. In order to ensure that enough anodic material is provided, the designer must know the density of the material.
The density of the particular alloy composition being considered should be taken from the anode manufacturer as this will vary slightly from alloy to alloy. For preliminary design a table showing typical densities is shown below.
