The CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel is a comprehensive collection of geometrical and design parameters for all standard steel sections included in European and British Standards. The spreadsheet allows the designer to select any standard steel section of any type, over 3,500 different sections spread over 29 different section shapes. The spreadsheet then presents the dimensions and the relevant design properties for the selected steel section. The spreadsheet also includes a handy dynamic drawing of the chosen section so the designer can see that the correct section has been chosen and exactly what the dimensions of the section are.
The CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel can be purchased for only £19.99. Alternatively the Steel Section Ultimate Bundle includes standard steel section information from the US, Europe, Britain and India as well as calculators for non-standard sections for only £29.99, representing a saving of more than 60%.
Or why not buy our best value bundle? Our Full Steel Design Spreadsheet Suite can be purchased at the bottom of this page for only £49.99. This suite includes all of our steel design spreadsheets and represents an incredible saving of 66%. This suite can also be purchased at the bottom of this page.
Steel Section Information
The design of steel sections requires a great deal of information on the detailed dimensions of the section and the sectional properties. Each different section behaves in different ways depending on the quantity of steel or the sectional area and the section shape. The section shape determines the bending resistance which is different for bending in each direction unless the section is symmetrical.
The bending resistance of a section shape depends on the quantity or sectional area of steel and also how far this steel is away from the neutral axis. The neutral axis runs through the centre of the section and steel further from this line enjoys a lever arm multiplier on its resistance to bending. This is why I shape and hollow sections are much more efficient at resisting bending than solid shapes because the majority of their steel is located at the periphery of the section rather than in the centre.
The CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel includes detailed information for all the standard steel sections from European and British Standards. All sections from the Tata Blue Book and the Arcelor Mittal Orange Book are also included. This includes both hot formed and cold formed sections, both open sections and hollow sections.
In addition to these standard European steel sections the spreadsheet also includes detailed information on other commonly used sections taken from recent British Standards and a number of commonly used fabricated beams. This means that the spreadsheet represents a one stop shop for all design information on all standard European and British steel sections. Note that information from historical UK steel section guides are included in the Steel Section Ultimate Bundle.
The CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel includes full geometrical and design information on 29 different section types. The spreadsheet includes the following sections including both hot formed and cold formed sections where appropriate; UB, UC, UBP, HE, HL, HD, HP, IPE, RSJ with taper flanges, Slimflor Fabricated Beams, Asymmetric Slimflor Beams, Tee Sections from UB, UC or RSJs, Castellated Beams from UB, UC or RSJ Sections, Circular Hollow Sections (CHS), Elliptical Hollow Sections (EHS), Square Hollow Sections (SHS), Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS), Taper Flange Channels (RSC/UPN), Parallel Flange Channels (PFC/UPE), Equal Leg Angles, Unequal Leg Angles, Back-to-Back Equal Leg Angles, Back-to-Back Unequal Leg Angles, Sigma Butted Sections and Z Butted Sections.
The CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel includes detailed information on the geometrical properties of steel sections. The geometrical properties covered by the spreadsheet include; main section dimensions, detailing dimensions, root and toe radii, corner radii, taper angles, mass per metre, ratios for local buckling and sectional areas.
The CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel also includes all the design section properties which may be required for the design of any of the sections. The design properties covered by the spreadsheet include; 2nd moment of area, radius of gyration, elastic and plastic section modulus, buckling parameters, torsional index, warping constant, torsional constant, shear centre position, neutral axis position, centre of gravity position, slenderness coefficients, mono-symmetry index, and fire detailing information.
In addition to the section specific sheets, the CivilWeb European Steel Section Properties Excel also includes a sheet presenting all the data for all the steel sections. This can be useful for the designer if they need to select a standard steel section to suit a particular critical parameter. This may be either a geometrical parameter such as a maximum height or width, or a design parameter such as a required minimum elastic modulus for example.
