The CivilWeb Steel Angle Design Spreadsheet is a powerful and easy to use suite of spreadsheets for the design of any steel angles or L sections. The suite includes separate spreadsheets for the design of any standard sized steel angle sections in accordance with both Eurocodes and AISC standards. The spreadsheet also includes a spreadsheet for the design of non-standard L shaped sections of any dimensions and using any material. Each spreadsheet also includes our unique steel angle selection tool which shows the designer the most economical section for any design conditions, saving hours of iterative hand calculations.
Together this suite of spreadsheets can be used to design any standard or non-standard angle section to Eurocode or AISC standards. The CivilWeb Steel Angle Design Spreadsheet can be purchased at the bottom of this page for only £19.99.
Alternatively the CivilWeb Cold Formed Steel Design Spreadsheet Suite includes our Angle, Channel and Z Purlin design spreadsheets in a handy bundle. This allows the designer to complete the design of any of these common cold formed sections. The Suite can be purchased for only £29.99.
Or why not buy our best value bundle? Our Full Steel Design Spreadsheet Suite can be purchased at the bottom of this page for only £49.99. This suite includes all of our steel design spreadsheets and represents an incredible saving of 66%. This suite can also be purchased at the bottom of this page.
Steel Angle Design
The design of steel angle sections is very commonly required in the design of all kinds of steel framed buildings. Angle sections are often used as connecting members due to their shape which makes them easy to connect to other open sections with bolts. Angle sections are also commonly used as bracing members or as diaphragm members in large steel trusses for the same reasons.
Angle sections are well suited for use as a bracing and connecting member because they have relatively good resistance to tension and compression forces. The L shape of angle sections also makes them very useful as stiffening members or as primary members of composite or built up sections. Built up sections consist of two or more standard or non-standard sized sections welded or bolted together to act as one member.
Angle sections do have a number of disadvantages compared with other section shapes. One disadvantage with angle sections is its relatively inefficient capacity for resisting bending. While angle sections are good at resisting compression and tension, angle sections are not good at resisting bending forces. The asymmetry of angle sections can also result in the section becoming unstable under certain loading conditions. Angle sections are poor at resisting bending in the secondary axis and are not usually used where any biaxial bending is expected.
CivilWeb Steel Angle Design Spreadsheet Suite
The CivilWeb Steel Angle Design Spreadsheet Suite includes all the tools required for the design of standard and non-standard steel angle and L shaped sections. The suite includes the following spreadsheets;
- Bending, Shear and Bearing on Web Analysis in accordance with Eurocode BS EN 1992 (For both Standard and Non-Standard Sized Sections)
- Biaxial Bending and Shear Analysis in accordance with Eurocode BS EN 1992 (For both Standard and Non-Standard Sized Sections)
- Biaxial Bending, Shear and Bearing on Web Analysis in accordance with Eurocode BS EN 1992 (For both Standard and Non-Standard Sized Sections)
- Steel Angle Design in accordance with AISC standards
Each spreadsheet includes a unique tool which shows the designer exactly which standard sized sections are best suited to the design conditions. This steel section picker tool shows the designer which sections are suitable and then orders them according to the section mass per metre. This shows the user exactly which sections are most economical at a glance. This saves many hours of detailed hand calculations which need to be repeated several times before a valid and economical design is found.
CivilWeb Steel Angle Design Spreadsheet Suite
The CivilWeb Steel Angle Design Spreadsheet Suite is a powerful set of spreadsheets which can be used for the design of any standard or non-standard sized steel angle or L section. The suite includes preset details of all standard sized sections available in Europe and the US (AISC). Each spreadsheet includes unique design features which show the designer the most appropriate sections for any set of design conditions. This allows the designer to complete a suitable and optimised steel angle design in accordance with European or US standards in minutes.
