Reinforced Concrete Slab Design
Reinforced concrete slabs are very common in all types of buildings. Even steel framed buildings often include reinforced concrete slabs as they are cost effective and easy to connect to all types of buildings frames.
Note these floor slabs are slabs supported on beams or columns, not ground supported slabs. The design of reinforced concrete slabs can be a time consuming process. The designer must first complete the structural analysis of the frame and the proposed slab in order to calculate the maximum bending moments and shear forces. One way spanning slabs are continuously supported along two parallel sides, by concrete beams for example. This leads to simple loading conditions and the slab can be designed in a similar way to a simply supported concrete beam.

The CivilWeb Two Way RCC Slab Design Excel Sheet can be used to design more complex two way spanning concrete slabs. Two way spanning concrete slabs do not have two parallel supports. They usually include four column supports, one at each corner though more complex arrangements such as two columns and one beam can also be accommodated.

This spreadsheet takes the supporting conditions and the applied loads and calculates the maximum bending moments, shear forces and support reactions. These can then be taken into the CivilWeb Two Way Reinforced Concrete Slab Design Excel Sheet for design of a two way spanning concrete slab.
Punching Shear Design Spreadsheet
The CivilWeb Punching Shear Design Spreadsheet can be used to check a concrete slab against punching shear. Punching shear can occur when a large load is concentrated into a small area on the slab. This is very common where slabs either support or are supported by columns or where heavy point loads are possible. The Punching Shear Reinforced Concrete Slab Design Spreadsheet can be used to analyse whether the slab resistance to punching shear loads is adequate and can be used to design any additional reinforcement required.
