Masonry Design Spreadsheet Suite
The CivilWeb Masonry Design Spreadsheet Suite includes the following individual spreadsheets;
- Masonry Wall Design Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet can be used to design unreinforced masonry walls subjected to lateral loads such as wind loads. The spreadsheet includes for cavity and single leaf walls and can complete the design in accordance with either BS EN 1996-1-1 or BS 5628-1.
- Load Bearing Wall Design Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet is for the design of unreinforced masonry walls subject to vertical loads but no lateral loads. Typically this is for load bearing internal walls though can be used for external walls where wind loads are not present. The spreadsheet includes for cavity and single leaf walls and can complete the design in accordance with either BS EN 1996-1-1 or BS 5628-1.
- Reinforced Masonry Wall Design Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet is for the design of reinforced masonry walls subject to lateral loads such as those from the wind. This is usually used for masonry walls subjected to large lateral forces from the wind, therefore the masonry has to be reinforced with steel bars to resist these forces. The spreadsheet includes for cavity and single leaf walls and can complete the design in accordance with either BS EN 1996-1-1 or BS 5628-1.
- Brick Column Design Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet can be used to design load bearing brick or blockwork columns. The spreadsheet includes for both vertical loads and lateral loads such as wind loads on exposed masonry columns. The spreadsheet includes separate sheets for the design of masonry columns to either BS EN 1996-1-1 or BS 5628-1.
- Brick Pier Design Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet is for the design of masonry walls supported by brick or block piers. Where light masonry walls are subjected to large lateral loads such as wind loads, in some cases these walls can be made stiffer with the introduction of masonry piers at regular centres along the wall. This spreadsheet includes separate design sheets for the design to either BS EN 1996-1-1 or BS 5628-1.
- Padstone Design Spreadsheet – The padstone design spreadsheet includes all the tools required to complete the design or evaluation of padstones or spreaders on masonry walls. Padstones are commonly used to spread large loads from beams or lintels supported on a masonry wall. The spreadsheet evaluates the strength of the masonry wall and completes the design of the padstone to either BS EN 1996-1-1 or BS 5628-1.
- Free Standing Masonry Wall Design Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet can be used to design simple free standing masonry walls. The spreadsheet follows the guidance of BRE GBG 14 which sets out the standard design and specification for simple free standing brick or block walls in normal conditions. This is the fastest and most efficient way to design simple free standing walls allowing a design to be completed with only a couple of design inputs required.
- Windpost Design Spreadsheet – The windpost design spreadsheet can be used for the design of windposts supporting masonry walls. Where light masonry walls are required to withstand large lateral loads such as wind loads, in some cases steel windposts can be installed at regular spacings to withstand these lateral forces. The spreadsheet includes all standard channel and angle sections. The spreadsheet completes the design of the windposts in accordance with Eurocodes BS EN 1996-1-1 and BS EN 1993-1-1.
- Cavity Wall U Value Calculator Spreadsheet – This spreadsheet can be used to calculate the combined U value for any surface. The spreadsheet includes walls, floors and roofs and comes complete with hundreds of preset U values for standard building materials.
- Brick Calculator Excel Spreadsheets – This set of 18 different calculator spreadsheets can be used to calculate the number of bricks or blocks required for any masonry project including walls, garages, houses, sheds and more. Also calculates mortar requirements, costs and timescales for your project.
All the spreadsheets included in the CivilWeb Masonry Design Spreadsheet Suite are designed to be as user friendly as possible, with unique features designed to increase the speed and accuracy of the masonry design process. All spreadsheets include pre-set details taken directly from the standards. They also include dynamic drawings of the masonry designs showing exactly what is being designed.
